Resources
There are abundant sources of information and support for developing a mental
health ministry in the form of books, brochures, videotapes and organizations. Listed below are a
few of them.
Pathways to Promise : www.pathways2promise.org Multiple resources including a videotape
(Ministry and Mental health - one hour), bulletin inserts tailored to particular faith traditions
(Jewish, Protestant and Roman Catholic), a booklet, videotape and student and instructor manuals
on "Caring Congregations" and a booklet on the Bible as a resource for sermons,
articles and support groups.
Mental Health Ministries : www.mentalhealthministries.net Susan Greg-Schroeder's book: "In
the Shadow of God's Wings: Grace in the Midst of Depression". Ten short, award winning,
videotapes with discussion guides on a variety of mental illness topics that stress the role of
the faith community in understanding and support.
Mental Illness Education Project : www.miepvideos.org A series of 30 minute videotapes that include
family and consumer discussion on a variety of topics including, families dealing with mental
illness, consumers talking about recovery, problems raising their children or obtaining
employment, and dealing with co-occurring substance abuse.
NationalAlliancefor th Mentally Ill (NAMI) : www.nami.org Information and pamphlets about various support and
training programs offered, including "Family to Family" and "Peer to Peer".
Sr. Ann Catherine's web page : www.hopetohealing.com Contains informational and inspirational
messages and a site for posting and reading personal accounts of faith and recovery.
Mental Health Association : www.mhamilw.org Many pamphlets and brochures on almost every aspect of
mental illness including the booklet, "Opening Doors to Mental Health" which
lists, describes and gives contact information on every mental health program in the community.
