My Two Crosses by Judy Vera

I am not a nun, but a sister in Christ who lives successfully with bipolar
illness. I've had it since 1990, my entire work career time almost. I have successfully
held down jobs since then and have just recently opened my own business called Vera &
Associates. I live in Tulsa, Oklahoma, but have also lived in Corpus Christi, Texas and
most recently in Lafayette, Louisiana for two months.
What gives me strength and courage is my strong faith in Christ. I believe the bible when
it says, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!"
I also live successfully with insulin dependent diabetes and have since the pregnancy of my
first child, who is now 17. I have three beautiful children, Oscar (17), Maria (15) and
Stephen (3). All are wonderful blessings. Also this year, I have a German foreign
exchange student named Heike who will be 17 this year. She is spending the school year
with us. My kids are my joy!
I am also married to a wonderful man who has shared my struggles and successes. We got
remarried in the Catholic Church in 1999, just before Stephen was conceived. The Lord has
richly blessed us. I believe for each cross He gives He abundantly blesses. Since I
have two crosses, I got double the blessings.
I do not attend any groups, but rely on the Lord for my encouragement and counseling. He
has always given me the strength to get through both my illnesses.
I love to bike ride, walk my two dogs, play with my three cats and of course laugh and play
with my 3 year old. But mostly I love to read the Word. My wisdom comes from the
truth of God's word.
Yours in Christ, Judy Vera
