Snow by Dianne Lotter

Feb. 10, 2008

This winter has been a difficult one - that is an understatement.  Almost every day we are hit with either a burst of snow or a blast of cold.  Everyone is complaining.  Everywhere I go, that is what people are talking about.  "I've had enough snow to last a lifetime!  It's going to snow again?"

It was with this in mind that I climbed into my car on the way to Church one morning last week.  Yes, it was snowing.  As I sat there in  my car, getting ready to reach for the snow-brush, I happened to glance at the front window.  My eye was drawn to one tiny snowflake.  I could see the shape of its' six points, perfectly, beautifully shaped.  In awe, I sat and stared at it.  Then I looked around me at all the other snowflakes - piles upon piles of them, knowing that in those high piles were packed millions, zillions of snowflakes just like this one.  The miracle of it all changed me on the inside.  I was no longer angry that we have so much snow.  It seemed as though I was surrounded by God's tiny miracles, and my entire attitude towards the snow was changed.  Rather than looking at it as something to dread, I took on an attitude of immense appreciation for the wonders of God's creation.  I decided that as soon as the freezing temperatures subsided, I would take a walk, so as to be out there among all of this white beauty - these millions of tiny creations of an awesome Creator - an ever-loving, unbelievably generous God.
